"We know that 75 percent of American adolescents are online (U.S. Census,2002) and 85 percent of all Internet users expect to find key news information online (Horrigan and Rainie,2002). Yet “the adolescents of thenineties are more isolated and more unsupervised than other generations” (Hersch, 1998). The tools of visual, media, and information literacy must be taught in school because they will (or won’t) be used at home."

In this quote it states that the majority of adolescents in the world use the internet for their news. I know personally I do look on my phone at apps before I even go turn on my TV. Its so amazing how when I wake up I look on my phone. Why not make it accessible to students to look at even when they are in the classroom. For those students who aren't really into school, maybe this can be the difference maker. Maybe it can be now more interesting for kids! The Picture I choose shows kids using Apple products and they are having so much fun. Imagine if every kid classroom was like that!

I think it's a great idea to let students use their phones in the classroom! It is such a huge part of our society now and in our every day use. I'm sure kids would get much more involved in the classroom if they were able to use devices that make learning a little more fun.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that. I am the same way. Phones can do so much these days, and it's so accessible that you can take it pretty much anywhere. I think that letting kids use the phones for educational purposes could be a good thing, it would let them have fun, and it relates to them more.
